Chlamydia services take to the road to target 15-24 year old

The Valentine’s themed ‘Love Bug’ campaign visited young people on their territory.  Locations included schools, colleges, town centres and busy retail parks.

A hit squad team was used outside the vehicle to engage and encourage visitors to come on board and the “I’ve been tested” free pants presented to all those screened were a huge hit with the students.

- Over two hundred 15-24 year olds were tested for Chlamydia on the first day at a local college, the number the PCT would normally test in a week
- 674 screens were carried out over the two weeks (134% above target)
- 1,158 visitors experienced the roadshow vehicle over the 10 days

“We were looking for a fresh approach to target young people aged between 15 and 24, who fall into the ‘high-risk’ category for Chlamydia. Not everyone wants to visit a sexual health clinic and our Valentine’s roadshow provided easy access to information and testing facilities so they could get themselves tested there and then.”
